Maybe you've seen the hundreds of carved pumpkins brightly illuminated near the Dayton Art Institute at Pumpkin Glow on Stoddard Ave. each year.

But do you know what goes into making this event possible? These pumpkins don't carve themselves!

Carvers from around the city from different skill levels step up to help create some 850 pumpkins each year.

These volunteers are led by Judy Chaffin, who's orchestrated the Pumpkin Glow for decades. Since 1995 to be exact.

Dayton.com went behind the scenes to watch volunteers, pick, gut and carve pumpkins for the annual show that leaves participants amazed.
