An Illinois-based chain of convenience stores and gas stations is opening up a location in Park Layne.
Casey’s General Store on South Dayton-Lakeview Road is expected to open early next year, according to a spokesperson with the company.
The chain specializes in serving pizzas, subs, burgers and other offerings made from scratch. Some locations sell grocery items or operate as gas stations.
The location near New Carlisle is expected to offer freshly prepared food, carryout and will sell fuel, said Katie Petru, a spokesperson for Casey’s.
“At Casey’s General Stores, our mission is to make life better for our communities and our guests every day. We’re proud to be part of the local communities in Ohio, and look forward to welcoming guests in New Carlisle in the coming months,” she said in an email to the News-Sun.
Construction at the Park Layne store started last month.
Casey’s already operates several stores in the Dayton region. As of late last year, there were Casey’s stores located in Huber Heights, Greenville, Centerville and Clayton, and several more planed to be built in the area, according to this news organization, the Dayton Daily News reported.
The chain has 16 locations in Ohio and around 2,000 in 15 other states, making it the fourth-largest convenience store retailer and the fifth-largest pizza chain in the country, according to information provided by the publicly traded company.
Petru said the Casey’s will be approximately 4,700 square feet. A company affiliated with Casey’s General Store purchased several acres of property on South Dayton-Lakeview Road in June. The Casey’s Marketing Company purchased the land from Ronald E. Burns for $525,000, according to the Clark County Auditor’s Offices.
Ethan Harris, Director of the Clark County Community and Economic Development department, said many of the businesses in the area were damaged by high winds in 2017. He hopes the store will usher in new business to the area.
Nancy Brown, a Bethel Township Trustee, said several of the businesses in the area that were damaged by the 2017 tornado have closed.
“This is a great opportunity to grow that corridor of the county and we are continuing to see growth there,”Harris said.
Casey’s has been interested in building a store in the area for two years, Brown said. However, the company had to take care of a few issues at the stretch of property they were interest in purchasing and building on.
She said that included addressing a water issue and getting permission from the owner of a fuel line that runs through the property before construction could start.
