Dayton’s Mile Two a finalist in national app challenge

A Dayton software developer is a finalist in a national app-creation challenge.

A health-care app developed by Dayton-based Mile Two, LLC and Annapolis Junction, Md.-based Asymmetrik Ltd. was named a finalist in Cerner’s Code App Challenge, a national competition honoring new health-care apps.

Called the “Cardiac Consultant app,” Mile Two said the software helps doctors evaluate a patient’s heart health and offers better communication with patients on their risk for heart disease and stroke.

“The app displays the data, risk assessment models and treatment recommendations in a manner that allows a physician to explore the potential impacts of treatments, such as reducing cholesterol, and lifestyle changes,” Mile Two said in a release.

Cardiac Consultant “provides an impactful visualization for informing patients about the factors contributing to health risks, for explaining the treatment options, and for involving them in treatment decisions,” the company said.

As finalists, Mile Two and Asymmetrik will jointly present the app at Cerner’s annual conference in Kansas City in October, where thousands of attendees will vote on the final winner of the challenge, Mile Two said. The app will also be presented at another event in Washington DC at the end of September.

Mile Two creates software focused on human performance, user experience design and cognitive systems engineering for government and commercial clients.
