At Home expands in Dayton: 5 things to know about the chain’s growth

At Home, the home decor superstore that is expanding in Dayton, just reported its most recent financial results and the chain retailer is making solid gains.

At Home Group Inc. announced its second quarter results — reporting 23 percent net sales growth and a nearly 8 percent comparable store sales increase. This is the 13th consecutive quarter of net sales growth that was more than 20 percent, and the 14th consecutive quarter of positive comparable store sales increases.

“Customers continue to respond positively to our trend-relevant assortment of home décor at a compelling value, driving growth in both new and existing stores across a wide range of geographies, price points, everyday and seasonal merchandise,” said Lee Bird, chairman and chief executive officer.

At Home opened eight new stores in the second quarter and closed one, and the chain has 136 stores in 33 states. That’s an increase of more than 18 percent in stores since 2016.

The Texas-based home decor retailer will open its first location in the old Kmart building off of Indian Ripple Road. Beavercreek Planning Commissions approved the plans for the retailer to renovate the space at a meeting early last month. The former Kmart building, which has stood there for more than 40 years, has been deteriorating significantly in recent years.

“It will definitely attract a lot of shoppers,” said associate city planner Sandra Pereira. “It will significantly improve that area.”

At Home has opened 80 new stores in just four years, and plans to open 25 new stores in the 2018 fiscal year. The chain sells “home products to fit any budget or style — from sofas, dining sets, mattresses and patio furniture to lamps, pillows, kitchenware, rugs and more, plus seasonal décor that includes yard displays, lights and Christmas trees.”
