“My heart goes out to the workers and their families who will be impacted by this closure. At Montgomery County, we are committed to providing job placement and training services to all our dislocated workers, and we also offer safety net and support services to help people get through this difficult time,” said Debbie Lieberman, Montgomery County Commission President.
The county will hold a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the distribution center for former Payless employees. Employers can register for a free booth online. The county's Workforce Development division will also connect employees with food assistance, child care and medical services, as well as guide them through the unemployment application process.

“Our Workforce Development staff is always prepared for business closures,” said Marvene Mitchell, director of Workforce Development for Montgomery County. “We know how difficult a layoff can be to workers and their families. We’ll have an orientation for the affected workers and help them get immediate assistance. Then our recruiters will work one-on-one with each person until they find new employment. Our goal is to get each worker into a new job that fits their skills and interests as quickly as possible.”
