New ice cream shop opens in former St. Paris IGA location

Glennon’s Irish Creamery has opened in the former IGA grocery location in St. Paris.

Nicki Bateson, the owner of the new ice cream spot, said the business is just getting its feet on the ground.

“We are just holding our soft opening,” Bateson said. “We have hand-dipped ice cream.”

Bateson said soon the creamery, which had a soft opening on Friday, will offer milkshakes and sundaes as a part of a full menu. Her said she was inspired to open the creamery to give back to the St. Paris community.

“We decided to try to come in and give residents the ice cream they have been missing,” Bateson said.

The creamery is located at 311 W. Main St. in St. Paris.

The former IGA store closed March 30.

The store managers at the IGA did not provide comment as to why the store closed and deferred to IGA’s corporate offices. Calls to corporate have not been returned.

Without the IGA, village residents are limited in their options for groceries. Residents must travel to Urbana, Piqua or New Carlisle for the closest grocery store.
