RELATED: New Star Wars awakens with huge economic impact
The first trailer was released in April this year, and until last night, there really hadn’t been a glimpse of the new movie since July, when Lucasfilm and Disney released a series of “behind the scenes” clips.
The trailer shows Rey (Daisy Ridley) in Jedi training, presumably under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is evidently “scared” at what he sees.

Also seen are space battles, including one moment of apparent connection between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his mother, Leia Organa (the late Carrie Fisher).

Reportedly picking up exactly where “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” left off, The Last Jedi lands in theaters Dec. 15.
Other than eagerly discussed tidbits of spoilers (and supposed spoilers), little is known at this point of the new film’s direction and plot, other than it is expected to re-introduce classic and new characters alike.
J.J. Abrams, who directed and co-wrote The Force Awakens, will direct Episode IX in the series, Lucasfilm said in September. That chapter is set for release on Dec. 20, 2019.
