As wellness service trend continues, 2 massage spas to open in region

Two new massage and facial spa locations will be opening in the Dayton region this year.

Local entrepreneur and franchisee Michael Lane is opening a location of Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa at the Dayton Mall next month. The "luxurious" spa will offer a variety of services including massage treatments, facial treatments and facial enhancement services. The opening is Feb. 12 at 2826 Miamisburg Centerville Road.

Passionate about growing businesses, Lane is also the owner of Whit’s Frozen Custard in Lebanon, and he has plans to open another Hand & Stone this November in the Cornerstone of Centerville development. The spa offers full body massages, Swedish, deep tissue and sports massages as well. Other services include aromatherapy, hot towel foot massages and peppermint scalp massages.

An introductory 1-hour massage cost $59.95.

Nicholas Marco, regional developer for Hand & Stone, said malls and shopping centers are interested in the spa business because it’s unaffected by the boom in online retail. Not only are consumers interested in wellness treatments, but it’s a service they can’t readily get online, he said. The wellness industry grew by 10.6 percent to $3.72 trillion between 2013 and 2015, accoridng to the Global Wellness Institute.
