Thanks to popular demand, Dayton's winning Bloody Mary from the Bloody Mary Showdown on Jan. 27 will be added to the TJ Chumps bar menu in Miamisburg.
"We have decided to run a special at the Miamisburg location only on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ... 22 ounces of my special Bloody with all my garnishes I used — pickle, olive, celery, lime, horseradish cheese, shrimp cocktail, candied jalapeño bacon and the deviled egg for $8.99," said winning bartender Jenn Elsass. "If they want a beer back it is $1 more. It will be only at the Miamisburg location until we see what kind of demand we have and we will go from there."
Nearly 20 local bartenders and restaurants signed up to compete to see who serves up the Best Bloody Marys in town.
Attendees — hundreds of them — voted on their favorite Bloody Mary creations. The winning Bloody Marys were:
3rd Place Best Bloody Mary: The Bloody Derby made with Old Forester created by Brook Paxon of The Troll Pub
2nd Place Best Bloody Mary: Papi’s Sassy Bloody Mary Mix by Vicki Wedworth of Papi Joe’s Tennessee Pepper Sauce Company
2019 Best Bloody Mary: Berzelsass’s Best Bloody created by Jenn Elsass from TJ Chumps in Miamisburg
TJ Chumps participated for the first time this year, and clearly first time was the charm with Elsass, 38, and her team who managed to capture all of the top awards. Elsass has been a bartender at TJ Chumps for 16 years this April.
Her Bloody Mary, served with a shot of beer back, a delicious candied jalapeño bacon deviled egg and a traditional Bloody Mary garnished with a large shrimp drew a massive interest from the beginning of the event with people standing in a long line throughout to see what the buzz was about. If you missed it now is the chance to try it for yourself.
