A beloved Dayton coffee shop is getting room to grow.
Ghostlight Coffee announced today in a press release that owner and founder, Shane Anderson, has signed a lease at 800 S. Patterson Blvd. The new shop will be in the same building that houses Old Scratch Pizza and across from RINSE Cycle. The 8-year-old Ghostlight shop in the iconic blue, 1880s South Park Neighborhood building will remain open for business.
The existing coffee house has offered fresh baked goods and treats made off-site by Ghostlight bakers, however the new midtown location will have much more room for an expansive food menu ranging from breakfast sandwiches and “from-scratch” bakery goods to toasts, tartines and salads inspired by international cafes.
The shop said it plans for a fall 2019 opening date.
“I want the shop to feel natural to the building and the community,” said Anderson. “The new spot will be a bit more industrial and modern than our current shop because it was built in the 1960s versus the 1880s. This aesthetic felt like the intuitive choice.”
Eric Soller, co-founder of Old Scratch Pizza, said he had been looking for an appropriate partner to move into the tenant space that is part of his pizza restaurant’s building.
Ghostlight “will complement our customer base and will bring more vibrancy to that corner of the neighborhood,” Soller said.
Sharing a building with a coffee shop-bakery that focuses on early-morning, breakfast and and lunchtime service is “a perfect sort of synergy” for his pizza restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner, the Old Scratch founder said.

“Ghostlight has such a great reputation, and Shane is a great operator,” Soller said.
Ghostlight has won the Best Coffeehouse category in the Best of Dayton contest for last three consecutive years.
“What I thought would be the South Park neighborhood coffeehouse quickly turned into a great gathering place for the whole city,” Anderson said. “I am so grateful to the people of this city for their continued support of our shop.”
