ADULT SPELLING BEE: The fabulous idea you’ve been waiting for

Mila’s Suburban Cafe to host its first contest this Saturday

This could be your shot at redemption.

Mila’s Suburban Cafe in Englewood is hosting its first-ever Adult Spelling Bee this Saturday, Feb. 15, and has scheduled a second contest for Feb. 29, at the cafe at 606 Taywood Road.

The spelling bee will begin at 7 p.m. Contestants should sign up by 6:45 p.m. to participate. The competition will be limited to 15 contestants, and the words will be selected by the cafe’s owners, Michael and LaTasha Perry.

“We were just trying to find fun events to bring people in,” LaTasha Perry said. “We came up with this idea, and we’re going to give it a trial run.”

(Personal aside: One word that is etched in my brain forever, because it tripped me up at my second-grade spelling bee, is “gondolier.” I. Will. NEVER. Misspell. That. Word. Again.)

“Do you think you have what it takes to be the #1 Spelling champ in Englewood?” the owners ask on the cafe’s Facebook page.

Well, do you?
