Free tickets to see the Commodores offered to tornado survivors 

“Our community, especially those devastated by the recent tornadoes need some joy and entertainment as they rebuild day by day in the neighborhoods,” pastor said.

A Dayton church wants to treat survivors of the Memorial Day tornadoes to a night of both soul and funk.

Organizers of Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s Faith and Hope Concert — featuring the legendary soul and funk band the Commodores — are offering 150 complimentary tickets to tornado survivors. 

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Fraze Pavilion, 695 Lincoln Park Blvd. in Kettering.

The tickets will be distributed from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 16-17, at Corinthian Baptist Church, 700 S. James H. McGee Blvd., Dayton; Omega Baptist Church, 1821 Emerson Ave., Dayton and The Gateway Cathedral, 5501 Olive Road, Trotwood.

The National Weather Service confirmed 15 tornadoes touched down in the Dayton area on Memorial Day, May 28. 

A limited number of tickets will be available at each church. 

There will be a maximum of four given to each family. 

The concert, a second annual event, is a fundraiser for Holy Trinity, which is located in the Oregon District. 

“Music brings joy,” the Rev. Angelo Anthony, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, said. “Our community, especially those devastated by the recent tornadoes need some joy and entertainment as they rebuild day by day in the neighborhoods.”

The Dayton-based Motown tribute band Touch also will perform. 

Tickets range from $35 to $60 and are available at Fraze FanFare, 424 E Stroop Road in Kettering’s Town & Country Shopping Center and Etix.com.
The price increases the day of the show. 

The Commodores’ hits include “Brick House,” “Easy,” “Zoom,” “Nightshift,” “Machine Gun,” and “Sail On.”
