Organizers for the Dayton Hip Hop Festival, originally scheduled for July 1, say their plans to hold the show at Courthouse Square have been put on hold.

In response to questions on their Facebook page after posting the cancellation, festival organizers say the primary reason for the cancellation is due to security.

Montgomery County officials say the event’s organizers failed to provide the county a detailed plan in a timely manner.

“Any event (at Courthouse Square) has to meet certain requirements, and all events are unique,” said Cathy Petersen, Montgomery County Director of Communications. “I don’t think it would matter what event it was. We just needed some type of plan or outline. That’s due two weeks prior to the event.”

The free festival, which was to be filmed, was billed as the first of its kind in Dayton. Nearly 20 acts from around the area and Ohio were slated to perform.

A later statement on the Facebook page last week said a new date would be announced. This news outlet reached out to the Hip Hop Festival organizers to see if a new date has been secured as of this week, but have not heard back yet.
