The Ohio Players, creators of such hits as "Love Rollercoaster," "Skin Tight" and "Fire," were a hot item themselves in the mid-1970s with three consecutive platinum-selling albums (Skin TightFireHoney).

The band also had two certified Gold albums in the United States with Pain (1972) and Contradiction (1976). The Ohio Players have also been among the most covered and sampled groups from rap artists like Snoop Dogg and Puff Daddy to rock acts like Sound Garden and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
