Despite a hectic tour schedule, Hawthorne Heights remains connected to its hometown. The band, currently on a short break to work on new material, is preparing for its second annual Dayton Is For Lovers music festival at the “Old” Yellow Cab Bldg. on Friday, July 22.
Singer J.T. Woodruff and guitarist Mark McMillon recently discussed the event, which features Hawthorne Heights, You vs. Yesterday, Jasper the Colossal, the 1984 Draft, Bribing Senators and others.

Here are 3 things to know before you go:
FIRST YEAR A SELL-OUT
Woodruff: "Last year's Dayton Is For Lovers was incredible: a sold-out show with great Dayton bands. I enjoyed seeing some old friends and trying some of the food trucks. The Yellow Cab is a great venue, run by great people, so it was truly a great night."
McMillon: "All of the bands put on a great show and it was awesome to see so many friends all in one place. The fact the show sold out was just icing on the cake. You really can't ask for more, especially in our hometown."
WHAT’S DIFFERENT THIS YEAR
Woodruff: "We're excited to finally get to play another show in our hometown. One of our favorite parts of Dayton Is For Lovers is that we get see some friends play, and some new bands that we haven't caught yet. There is a lot of talent in Dayton, Ohio, and we're proud to be a part of it."
McMillon: "We have some different bands playing with us this time around to mix it up along with some favorites returning."
Woodruff: "We're keeping the same formula as last year simply because it worked well and was so much fun last year. There will be music in both rooms at Yellow Cab again, so it should be a loud and fun night. The only real difference is that it's summer, so hanging outside in between bands should be more fun. The last DIFL was in November, which was too cold for me. I'm excited to be able to enjoy the Midwestern night air."
PERFORMING ACROSS GLOBE
McMillon: “This year has been insanely busy but in the very best way. In addition to already touring the U.S., Japan, and Australia, we’re getting ready to head to Europe right after Dayton is For Lovers. We just played some large shows with Blink 182 that were so much fun and inspiring. Everyone in the band and crew treated us so great. It feels like we’ve been in constant movement all year but we feel so lucky to be able to see the world playing music.”
