Sadly, summer is coming to an end and that means it’ll soon be time to harvest all your garden’s hard work.

For their third year, Lily’s Bistro is throwing a Garden Party to teach you how to enjoy your garden greens long after the autumn chill has arrived.

On September 7, the elegant farm-to-table restaurant in the Oregon District will be showing party goers the art of preserving fruits and vegetables past their growing season.

The event will benefit the Greater Dayton Union Co-op Initiative and construction of the Gem City Market, a co-op grocery store to be built near downtown on Salem Avenue.

"With their mission of providing affordable and healthy food options to a severely under serviced area of our city, the Gem City Market is the perfect partner for this event,” said Emily Mendenhall, manager of Lily’s Bistro.

Attendees will also work with the experts one-on-one to create their own shrubs.

"A 'shrub' is a perfect mix of sweet with a slightly vinegar-based edge that is great for mixing with a wide-range of liquors," said bar manager, Amber Brady said. "I'll be creating three special cocktails available for purchase at the event. I'm really excited about the Blackberry Poblano one I've been working on!”
