Dayton-area communities participating in National Night Out

Police departments and local communities across the nation and all around the Dayton area will participate in National Night Out tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The annual national event, hosted at various sites across the country, is designed to foster partnerships between local police departments and the community. Police officials also hope to promote awareness about safety and crime prevention.

This is the 33rd year for National Night Out, which is celebrated every first Tuesday in August. More than 38 million people in 16,500 communities in all 50 states, Canada, U.S territories, and military bases worldwide took part in National Night Out 2015.

Here is a listing of Dayton-area communities that have events planned for National Night Out.

DAYTON

On Aug. 2, City of Dayton leaders and Dayton Police and Fire personnel will take a whirlwind tour to several National Night Out celebrations across Dayton. The annual event builds community spirit, boosts crime prevention and strengthens police-community relations.

The Dayton Police Department will lead the neighborhood tour caravan, which will make stops at six National Night Out community celebrations:

- Oregon District, Newcom Park  (4:50 p.m.)
- Dayton VA Medical Center, Kentucky Avenue Plaza (5:25 p.m.) 
- Residence Park, West Second Street at Elmhurst Avenue (5:55 p.m.) 
- Westwood School, 2805 Oakridge Dr. (6:25 p.m.)
- Old North Dayton/Taste of Old North Dayton, Stuart-Patterson Park, Leo St. at Baltimore Avenue (7 p.m.) 
- East End Community Center, 624 Xenia Ave. (7:35 p.m.)


KETTERING

The Kettering Police Department is inviting the public to attend their National Night Out event at Town and Country Shopping Center, on Aug. 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. The event will be held in the parking lot.

There will be a cookout, games, crime prevention displays, a dunk tank, raffles and police personnel on hand to interact with the community.  Our K9's and their handlers will be there as will some of the Kettering Regional SWAT Team members.


MIAMI TWP.

The Miami Township Branch of the Dayton Metro Library celebrates National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 6 - 8 p.m. The Library joins with the Miami Township Police and Fire Departments for this national community-building campaign. There will be games and giveaways for all ages, plus police and fire vehicles children can explore up close. Food will be provided by Skyline Chili. MORAINE

Moraine Police will be hosting its National Night Out event tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. Stop by and meet your local Police, Fire and Parks and Recreation staff while learning more about safety and public awareness along with our great City programs. There will be a Bicycle Rodeo and a Bike Raffle for ages 10 and under. FREE hot dogs will be served and you can a take tour of the Fire Safe House, Medics and Police cruisers. Kids will have a chance to play a few games and get glitter tattoos along with many free handouts promoting awareness!


PIQUA

The Piqua Police Department, in cooperation with the PROTECT Piqua Board of Trustees, is once again participating in numerous block parties across the city
during National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. There will be a wide range of social agencies and other law enforcement agencies that are either sending information to each of the block parties or are going to attend all the block parties.

Numerous streets will be closed in observance of National Night Out.


RIVERSIDE

The Riverside Police Department will host the city's National Night Out event, tonight, Aug. 2, 6 - 8 p.m. at the Riverside City Hall parking lot, 5200 Springfield St. FREE hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and Kona Ice will be served. Police and fire equipment will be on display, and you will have the chance to meet the men and women of the Riverside Police Department.


TROTWOOD

Here is a list of all the activities happening at the National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 5 - 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Home Depot:

- Home Depot is doing "Build Kits" for the kids and bringing out their Mascot "Homer". They are also donating raffle items for the kids.
- A Park Ranger from Houston Woods is bringing out an animal exhibit for display.
- The TMHS band is coming out for a performance.
- The Gem city roller derby will be in attendance.
- The VFW ladies Auxiliary will be doing face painting.
- United Against Violence and Grandview will be in attendance.
- Miami Valley Pet Therapy will have pet therapy teams attending.
- The Trotwood Library will be attending as well as Equitas Health.
- Western Southern, will be doing Ident-A-Kid.
- The Police Department will be doing Motorcycle demonstrations, evidence collection demos, and a K-9 Demonstration.
- The Police Department will be providing food (hot dogs, chips, water). We have a bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, and a dunk tank. As always everything is free to the public.
- The Fire Department will have an engine and medic on display.
- The Public Works Department will have some of their heavy machinery on display also.


WEST CARROLLTON

West Carrollton's National Night Out event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Wilson Park Pool, 1226 S. Elm St. Admission is free and open to the public. Participants can meet local police officers and play games. The event will also feature free snacks, demonstrations by Miami Valley Care Flight and West Carrollton Fire Department, as well as displays by local businesses.
