Enjoy food, music, fun and more at Jewish Cultural Festival

The 9th annual Jewish Cultural Festival at Temple Israel will be held this weekend near downtown Dayton.

The all-day event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 on the Temple grounds — 130 Riverside Drive across from Fifth Third Field. The entire community is invited to join in celebrating Jewish culture.

"We’re always excited to share Jewish culture and traditions with the Miami Valley each year," said festival chair Bonni Buchanan in a press release to this news organization. “With plenty of family fun, delicious food, great music and inspirational speakers, this is a festival you don’t want to miss!”

The festival will kick off with the annual Oy Vey 5k at 10:30 a.m., which is open to runners and walkers alike and boasts beautiful views of Downtown Dayton and the Stillwater River. Top male and female finishers will each receive a $100 cash prize and all participants will receive a finisher medal and tickets valued at $5 to use at the event for food or drinks.

Popular Miami Valley restaurants El MesonPasha GrillBella Sorella Pizza, and caterer Bernstein's Fine Catering will prepare traditional Jewish foods and add some spice to old classics. Homemade Jewish sweets including challah, cookies, honey cake and more will be available for purchase from Temple Israel's bakery. Festival-goers can also quench their thirst with some of the best local beers from the Dayton Beer Company and a selection of Dr. Brown's sodas.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Kiddos will love to slide down the 18-foot tall inflatable slide and participate in educational craft activities.

Interactive presentations will be given throughout the event, where local and national speakers will share Jewish stories, traditions and history.

- Children of all ages will enjoy the Israeli-themed educational petting zoo.

- A lively open-air market will offer a mix of crafts and artwork by local Jewish and non-Jewish artisans including jewelry, clothing, and other handmade items directly from Israel.

- The festival will also feature daylong dance and music performances, with traditional Israeli and belly dancing, Eastern European Jewish folk music, contemporary Jewish rock and blues, and popular tunes performed by the Dayton Jewish Chorale and the Miami Valley Music Men.
