Grown-up holiday fun awaits at Dayton’s 2018 Santa Pub Crawl

“We are asking everyone to play Santa for under privileged kids in out community,” organizer said.

Santas, rev up your reindeer.

A horde of jolly old elves, a bunch of reindeer and ton of other fun-lovers dressed in Christmas-themed costumes and duds will celebrate the season in the Oregon District this weekend during the 13th Annual Santa Pub Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The mission remains gathering gifts for the Marines' Dayton area Toys for Tots program, but the bash has a new time this year: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Event organizer Lisa Grigsby of Planned2Give said the time change — in past years, the event had started around 5 p.m. and wrapped up around midnight — will make it possible for more Santas to participate.

“The photo moments are better during the day and this way, the bars can have their regular bands,” she said. “It is adding a segment of business for them.”

Toxic Brew Company and Troll Pub are new participants this year.

The other participating Fifth Street bars are Dublin Pub; Hole in the Wall; Newcom’s Tavern; Ned Peppers; Oregon Express; Trolley Stop; Tumbleweed and Blind Bob’s.

“It is a fun way to make sure every kid in our community has a toy for Christmas,” Grigsby said. “We are asking everyone to play Santa for underprivileged kids in out community.”

What's the deal with costumes? There will be a costume contest with prizes for best Santa, best Mrs. Claus; best couple; best group (three or more); best large group (six or more); sexiest female Santa; sexiest male Santa; best non-Santa Christmas character  and best overall costume. The contest will take place at Blind Bob's at 6:30 p.m.  Dayton.com writer Amelia Robinson will serve as part of a panel of judges.

Punch cards will be distributed.

You have to stop at at least eight of the 10 bars to be eligible for prizes,” Grigsby said
