Here’s why you should go to Dayton’s El Dia de los Muertos celebration

Hundreds of people are set to parade through the Historic Oregon District for Dia de Muertos Dayton 2017. The event is set for 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29.

El Dia de los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” is a Latin-American celebration that recognizes dead loved ones with parties and parades. The local celebration dates back to 2012.

"Dayton is a very diverse city," said Gabriela Pickett, an event organizer and the owner of The Missing Peace Art Space at  234 S. Dutoit St.

“We can learn so much from each other. We have all lost a loved one, so it allows the entire community, regardless of how many differences we may have, to come together. We all celebrate the same thing.”
