Special after-hours event this weekend at Costco to honor heroes

Costco Wholesale and Wright-Patt Credit Union Inc. are joining forces to host a “Community Heroes Celebration” this Saturday, Oct. 14.

As part of the event — which will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone of Centerville warehouse — non-members will be able to shop at Costco Wholesale without first becoming a member, according to Debbie Moseley, marketing representative for the Costco Cornerstone store.

“We are welcoming everyone in the community to come and honor our heroes and enjoy a free shop night in the process,” Moseley said.

The store usually closes at 6 p.m. on Saturdays, “but we reopen especially for this event,” Moseley said. “This is our second year for it. We bring in local ROTC members, and they do a color-guard ceremony.”

Some World War II survivors also are scheduled to attend the event, Moseley said.

Light refreshments will be served, and there will be games and other family-friendly activities, as well as a donation drive for veterans and military families in need.

For those who attend the event, there will be special offers for anyone not currently a Costco member who DO want to become members during the event: a $20 Costco Cash Card for those who sign up for executive membership, and a $10 Costco Cash Card for those who sign up as Gold Star of Business member, Moseley said.
