How to avoid traffic and parking headaches at this weekend’s Dayton Air Show

It’s almost Dayton Air Show weekend! The last thing anyone wants is to be stuck in traffic trying to get there or frustrated over parking.

Here are some travel tips that anyone headed to the show should know.

The number one tip is to arrive early to avoid heavy traffic. Delays are expected on National Road and Dixie Drive throughout Air Show weekend. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

There’s plenty of onsite parking. Make sure you know where you’re headed based on the type of ticket you purchased. 

Expect a long walk from the parking lot to the show grounds. Free shuttles will pick up guests at the front of the P-lot parking lot and take to the Pavilion or Blue Sky chalet areas. The shuttle runs from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. continuously.

HOW TO GET THERE FROM THE HIGHWAY: Parking lots can be accessed from either I-75 or I-70. If you’re traveling north or south on I-75, use Exit 64 toward Northwoods Blvd. and follow the signs based on your ticket type. Those traveling east or west on I-70 are advised to use Exit 32, the Airport Access Road. 

Drivers are encouraged to follow signs posted along the show route as well as the directions conveyed by the police officers.


The Vectren Dayton Air Show has six parking lots: 

• P – Lot for Chalet and Pavilion ticket holders (Shuttle to Chalet or Pavilions) 

• General Admission Main Lot for General Admission tickets (Walk to Gate) 

• General Admission South Lot for General Admission tickets (Shuttle to Gate) 

• Handicap Parking Lot for any ticket holders with a Handicap plate or hang tag 

• VIP Parking Lot for Chairman’s Club and other VIP guests. Hangtag required. 

• C-lot Parking Lot for volunteers, air crew, and vendors. 

• Media Parking Lot for media, and Photo Pit/Tour ticket purchasers

HANDICAPPED PARKING: Note, those with handicapped parking tags will be directed to the appropriate area. Wheelchairs will not be available for rent. KT Scooter Rental will have electric mobility scooters available for rental. The rates are $10.00 per hour or $60 for the day (Special Air Show Pricing). The scooter rental will be located just inside the Main Gate to the show grounds. Reservations can be made with Teresa at (419) 679-8975. Service dogs ARE permitted at the Vectren Dayton Air Show.

COST: The cost to park on site is $10 per car and $20 for RVs, buses and large-size vehicles.

Continuous Express Shuttle service provided by Greater Dayton RTA is available from the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force to the show’s main gate for $3 per round trip. 

Hourly shuttle service also is available from Wright Stop Plaza in downtown Dayton to the show’s main gate. The regular RTA fare structure applies from downtown. Express Shuttle service will run between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
