Miamisburg’s haunted history to come alive during brewery’s full-moon tapping party

Christmas in July is so last year. This summer, it’s all about getting spooky— at least according to Star City Brewing Company.

The brewery in Miamisburg is taking full advantage of the full moon to pull-off its first ever Halloween in July, completed with a “spooooky full moon tapping party.”

A full day of spooky celebrations will take place on Saturday, July 28, leading up to the tapping of the 2018 DRAFT-Dayton award-winning recipe from Miamisburg native Mike McCaffrey, “Highland’s Finest.”

The spooky tie-in is all in the brew’s name. Highland’s Finest is a reference to the famous “Coffin Dodger” of Miamisburg.

“Library Park used to be the old town cemetery. In the late eighteen hundreds, the population was relocated to Hill Grove Cemetery, but they missed one that was later found during construction. A cast-iron coffin with a viewing window, the sharp dressed man now forever known to us as the ‘Coffin Dodger’ and became the first member of Highland Cemetery in 1965,” according to a Star City Brewing Company Press Release.

Justin Kohnen, owner of Star City Brewing Company, said the brewery wanted to do a special tapping and just couldn’t stop coming up with ideas for the event.

The afternoon will begin with a guided graveyard and ghost tour, beginning at the Highland Cemetery, 723 Upper Miamisburg Road at 12:30 p.m. Attendees will then be welcomed back to the brewery for “their first glass of Highland’s Finest, a guided ghost stories tour through the historic Peerless Inn where the brewery is housed, followed by a music-filled evening.”

“In addition to the tours and tapping, we’ve got a great night of music from David Payne, Akillis Green and Harold Hensley, plus food from the Wicked Wich of Dayton,” Kohnen said. “Halloween in July, it’s going to be a hoot!”

Tickets for the ghost tour are available at the brewery or at eventbrite.com.
