Popcorn is part of a 1990s tradition of horror movies that demonstrate a post-modernist self awareness that had never before been reflected in the genre. While searching an old trunk, college student Maggie Butler sumbles upon an old slasher flick that turns out to be terrifyingly similar to her own recurring nightmare.

The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys is the quintessential 1980s vampire film. It has it all: big ‘80s stars, a big ‘80s anthem for a theme song, and big ‘80s hair. The movie co-stars three of the era’s greatest heartthrobs: Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, and Kiefer Sutherland. While on the surface The Lost Boys is a creepy horror romp, at its core it’s a coming-of-age film about the importance of finding oneself amidst the competing noise of peer pressure and teenage drama.

Dead Alive
Most people know director Peter Jackson from the “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies. However, his 1992 slapstick horror masterpiece “Dead Alive” is just as worthy of praise as his high-profile blockbusters. Originally released as “Braindead” in Jackson’s native New Zealand, “Dead Alive” was lauded by critics as “the goriest film of all time.” Like all great scary movies, this zombie flick combines horror with comedy and scathing social commentary. “Dead Alive” doesn’t get screened on the big screen all that often, so you’ll want to get your seat for Friday’s showing at Horrorama Dayton right away!
The Wolf Man
The Wolf Man is one of the finest specimens in Universal Studios’ classic monsters stable and featured Lon Chaney, Jr. in the role that made him a horror movie star. While home for a funeral, Larry Talbot gets bitten by a wolf while trying to impress a girl. SPOILER ALERT: He becomes a werewolf.
Bring the kids Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. for the PG-rated Universal Monster Marathon.
Freddy vs. Jason
What do you get when you put the two most important slasher movie icons in the same film? You get exactly what you would expect, of course! “Freddy vs. Jason” was one of the most anticipated showdowns in horror movie history, with each contender having millions of fans in his corner. There’s plenty of violence and gore to go around, and even a little bit of a plot, involving some unfortunate circumstances at a rave that takes place in a cornfield. But it’s probably best not to worry too much about the storyline, and just enjoy your popcorn while you watch these two horror titans kick the crap out of each other.
From Dusk Til Dawn
George Clooney and Quintin Terrantino star in this south-of-the-border vampire movie directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Terrantino. The Titty Twister is a rough bar, no doubt, but things really get nutty when the sun goes down. “From Dusk Til Dawn” oozes a Mexican-gothic vibe and has garnered a cult following that earned it two direct-to-video sequels and a television series.
