It was through Goldston that Deal and her bandmate Mike Montgomery met Seattle-based artist Clyde Petersen, the director and subject of the animated film "Torrey Pines."
Petersen ended up taking R. Ring on an early morning boat ride the next day and filming for a segment of his online show Boating with Clyde.

"It was so relaxing and weird," Deal, a Dayton area resident, recalled. "It was really just lovely."
Petersen told Deal about her movie.
She admits she was at first skeptical, thinking that it might just be the type of animation that is OK, but typical.
The trailer changed her mind just like that.

"It is amazing," Deal said of Petersen's work based on his own life story and set in Southern California in the early 1990s.
Raised a girl, Petersen was kidnapped at age 12 by her schizophrenic mother and "taken on a cross-country adventure that will forever alter the family as they know it."
Petersen, an artist who works in film, animation and music, is a member of Seattle's transgender and queer communities.
He and his band "Your Heart Breaks" will accompany the movie showing at the Neon, 130 E 5th St. at 8 p.m. Nov. 1.
Petersen is touring the country with the show, making stops in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Washington, Atlanta and several other cities.
The only thing he and his crew needed to bring it to Dayton was a "place to show it and a place to spend the night," Deal said.
Deal almost immediately thought of The Neon.
Neon manager Jonathan McNeal said he was impressed by the movie, which was painted by hand.
"This is so fresh and relevant," McNeal said of the subject matter. "The layering and the stop action stuff is just amazing."
Ghostlight Coffee and Jimmie's Ladder 11 are also helping with the movie.
Deal says she hopes Dayton comes out for the movie.
She hopes to show Dayton off.
"I want the theater to be packed," Deal said. "I want to be proud of my town, that it is opened-minded and supportive.
