See motorcycle daredevils scale the ‘Wall of Death’ at this local festival

Summer festivals come in all sizes. Take, for example, the Blues Mini-Fest going on at Rip Rap Roadhouse Saturday, July 29. But this isn’t just a music festival. No sir. It’s an event that will also feature classic motorcycles and death-defying motor head heroics.

Local blues acts Chris Yakopcic and the Doug Hart Band will kick off the musical festivities, with demonstrations from American Motor Drome Company and their Wall of Death between sets.

The Wall of Death is one of the most famous stunt features in extreme biking, with riders -- sometimes several at a time -- defying gravity at high speeds in a small enclosed space.

The evening will conclude with three-time Grammy-nominated James Solberg and his backing band The Nighthawks. Solberg’s Chicago Blues stylings have twice earned him the W.C. Handy Blues Band of the Year Award. The renaissance blues man has some of the most classic Hollywood-sounding stories you’d ever want to hear. Whether it was playing with the late blues legend Luther Allison, winning a nightclub in a poker game, repairing vintage motorcycles or selling his own steak seasoning, Solberg would have a great story even if he wasn’t a heralded musician.
