Storied Dayton neighborhood captured in 60 photos

A downtown coffee shop will show off one of the city’s most storied neighborhoods.

Third Perk Coffeehouse and Wine Bar, 46 W. Fifth St. in downtown Dayton, will introduce PICTURE IT, its latest exhibition,  during a special event at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.

The Wright Dunbar Historic District photographic exhibit features more than 60 pieces by a list of artists that includes Aaron PaschalShon Houston, Daniel Reed and Diecer Delfin.

"We invited the community to submit their images," Third Perk owner Juanita Darden-Jones told this news organization. "We want people to be excited about how people went out and captured Wright Dunbar."

The neighborhood is named for airplane inventors Orville and Wilbur Wright and poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. The trio are former residents of the neighborhood.

PICTURE IT will also feature two commissioned paintings by  Francine Bankston-Cummings and Sinclair Community College graduate David Scott.

The exhibit’s aim is to celebrate artistic vision and Dayton’s entrepreneurship.

The photos will be available for purchase. The paintings will be auctioned.

This event is free and open to the public.
