The Water Lantern Festival comes to Columbus on Sept. 8. The aim of the event is to “inspire the human spirit” and bring together people from all walks of life to a memorable, peaceful evening.

According to the festival's website, each adult ticket provides entry into the festival area and comes with a floating water lantern, keychain LED flashlight, marker and wristband.

There will be food trucks at the event, and guests are welcome to bring their own picnics.

The lanterns, which will be personalized by attendees, are made from rice paper and wood so they are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Included in the price of your ticket is the cost of collecting and removing the lanterns from the water following the event, as well as cleaning up any trash that may have been previously been in or around the water.

Tickets for the event are tiered: $30 for regular (ends 8/30), $35 for late (ends 9/7) and $40 the day of. This price does not include the cost of fees or taxes. You can purchase ticket protection for an additional $4 to reserve your lantern in case of inclement weather and rescheduling.

Event schedule:
Gates open at 5 p.m.
Food truck, live music and vendors from 5 to 7 p.m.
Design your lantern at 7 p.m.
Lantern launch from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Event ends 9:30 p.m.
