As food truck season nears an end, we encourage you to brunch out one last time.
This summer on every first Sunday of every month, Yellow Cab Tavern (700 E. 4th St., Dayton) has hosted Brunch! A Food Truck Rally.
On Sunday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., food trucks including Smokin Barrels, Drunken Waffle, Twisted Taco, Cheezy Creationz and Good Golly Miss Molly's Food Bus will be showing off their spin on breakfast. Ghostlight Coffee will also be there to supply brunchers with freshly brewed coffee.
While the brunch truck rallies were originally scheduled to end in September, one has been added to October as well.
Whatever your brunch preferences, you will be hard pressed not to find something to like. In addition to eggs done every way you can think of, all the salty breakfast meats, waffles, biscuits and gravy and lunch creations for those who think brunch is overrated (you're crazy by the way), Yellow Cab will have all of the beverages you are looking for including coffee, Bloody Marys, mimosas and craft beer.
OUR FAVORITE DISHES THIS SEASON ...
Here are some of the dishes we tried and loved at the brunch rallies this season.
LOBSTER POUTINE FRIES
I tried the lobster poutine fries from Harvest Mobile Cuisine — and all I can say is I should have gotten another order.
The dish features crisp harvest fries topped with local cheese curds, fresh Maine lobster and lobster bisque. This was one of the top recommended orders at the event.
WICKED FRENCH TOAST
Another dish I tasted was The Wicked ‘Wich’s French toast. The fluffy bread (fresh from Evan’s Bakery) featured just the right amount of crunch and included a side of syrup for a sweet finish.
“We got to do all our fun sandwich ideas for brunch, including a French toast sandwich with bacon, Nutella and banana,” said Katie Marks, owner of The Wicked ‘Wich food truck.
The last bite I tried was literally that — Greek Street Food Truck’s baklava, which delivered a flaky, crunchy, sweet end to my brunch adventure.
For a breakfast that just tastes like fall, look no further than Drunken Waffle, Twisted Taco’s twist on its classic Toxic Practice Yoga IPA infused waffle.
2PAC SHA-KURRY TACOS
Leaning a little more towards lunch, on your brunch spectrum? We loved the fusion of flavors on Drunken Waffle Twisted Tacos’ curry tacos. The pulled chicken tastes just like Tikka Masala, yet on a taco, the popular Indian dish feels a lot lighter. The cucumber yogurt sauce really sets it off.
You legitimately might not have to eat another thing all day. This burrito is a MONSTER. Who knew smoky BBQ would be so good wrapped up with eggs and cheese?
