Alex Todd humorously posted to Facebook about his theory that Proto is the place in Dayton for first dates with an ancedote about an ongoing date at the time, so we decided to prod him a little as to why he thinks the industrial bar and maker space attracts a plethora of singles hoping to start a new romance.
"We don't really push ourselves as a home for dates, but I think we tend to kind of be the easy pick," Todd said.

Here are the reasons Todd, along with his coworkers, believe Proto Build Bar is the #1 spot for a first date in Dayton:
1.) Proto is something totally different, so you get points for taking your date somewhere unique that has built-in activites ready for the choosing.
2.) It's not a sit-down dinner joint, so you don't have to commit to spending a bunch of cash or time a potentially terrible date.
3.) They serve alcohol AND coffee, so if you aren't sure whether your date is down to drink, you can let them order first. Or, coffee can become drinks without having to change venues, if you so choose.
4.) The staff is awesome. If sparks aren't flying from the outset, the staff is ready to save the conversation and keep the night fun. And if the date goes bad, they keep an eye out to help diffuse the potential situation.
5.) It's far enough away from the Orgeon District and other popular bar-crowd places -- so it's more quiet, laid back, and you have much less of a chance of running into people you know that you may not want to see.
So whether you're looking for a new date spot to change it up, or you need a place to meet your most recent online dating match, Proto can hook you up -- and don't worry, you likely won't be the only ones in the room.
