Dayton Performing Arts Alliance’s free virtual summer concert series to debut tonight

The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance is inviting the community to dive into the arts this summer, with a refreshing mix of classical music, song and dance with "Summer Streams," a new free virtual concert series.

The DPAA is producing three separate series, Recital, Family and Replay, with a total of nine performances featuring the Dayton Philharmonic musicians, the Dayton Ballet dancers and the Dayton Opera’s artists-in-residence.

For the Recital Series and Family Series, small DPAA ensembles have taken the stage in the PNC Arts Annex and recorded concerts live and in person together (using social distancing) for the first time since March. The Replay Series features three previous DPAA performances, with brand new photo and video presentations to accompany the recorded music.

“The DPAA is thrilled to be offering the these nine virtual concerts we are calling Summer Streams, virtual recitals and educational programs from the artists of Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic,” Pat McDonald, President and CEO, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, said.

“I am so proud of our team for the collaborative effort they have shown in providing innovative programming during this unprecedented time,” she continued. “Our mission has been and continues to be to transform lives with the power of music and dance, and we will continue to find a way to do just that, even if we cannot all be together in person in our venues right now.”

“The performing arts are essential to our lives – to unite, to soothe, to heal, to entertain – and our dancers, singers, and musicians could not be happier to get back to doing what they love and sharing that passion with our community.”

It's easy to watch  these performances from the comfort and safety of your own home. A full listing of the DPAA Summer Streams concerts can be found below or at this link. On the date of the performance, simply click on the title of the performance, and when you land on the concert program page, click on the actual link to the performance. All the performances will be available online for 45 days after the premiere dates listed below.

This summer concert series is a wonderful way to experience the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Opera and Dayton Ballet, since the coronavirus has forced theaters to close down for end of their 2019-2020 season. The closure has affected the DPAA greatly due to lost revenue from cancelled events.

If you have a ticket to a canceled performance, the organization would greatly appreciate donating your ticket by contacting their box office at 937-228-3630.

Additionally, the DPAA has received a generous matching grant for up to $10,000 for any donations made during the month of June. To make a donation to the DPAA visit: https://daytonperformingarts.org/donate/
