- Choose peaches that show a background of color: red or creamy with a rosy blush
- Look for smooth unwrinkled skin and no blemishes, bruises, or tan circles
- Sniff the stem end of the peach. You should be able to smell the peachy fragrance
- Leave peaches at room temperature a day or two to soften on the counter or in a paper bag
- Store ripe peaches in the refrigerator 3-5 days, keeping in mind that they taste better at room temperature
- Before eating, wash peaches carefully in cool soapy water, then rinse well
- Peaches are very fragile. Handle them as little as possible before eating. Squeezing a peach before it is ripe may bruise the fruit
