Ohio reports more than 3,600 new COVID-19 cases

Ohio reported 3,628 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

The 21-day average is 3,935 new cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health, which released updated statistics this afternoon.

ODH also reported on Sunday that in the last 24 hours, 72 people were hospitalized due to COVID-19.

Two new patients were admitted to the ICU with COVID-19 in Ohio in the last 24 hours. The 21-day average of new ICU patients is 18 patients.

Nearly 6.6 million people, or about 56.3% of Ohioans, have have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 67.41% of adults and 59.83% of those 5 and older. More than 15,300 people started the vaccine in the last day, according to ODH.

Nearly 6.1 million residents, or 52.14%, have finished the vaccine, including 63.01% of adults and 55.42% of people 5 and older.

Throughout the pandemic, Ohio’s new cases typically have decreased on weekends and peaked on weekdays, when more testing is performed and results are completed. A total of 25,643 people have died from COVID-19 in the state of Ohio as of Friday, when the state recorded 5,379 cases.

Ohio updates death data twice a week. The day a death is reported does not reflect the day the death occurred.

ODH reported 2,551 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized Sunday in Ohio, according to the Ohio Hospital Association. That includes 714 patients in ICUs and 444 on ventilators, ODH said.

In the last day, Ohio recorded 140 hospitalizations and 12 ICU admissions. The state’s 21-day average is 171 hospitalizations and 18 ICU admissions a day.

Coronavirus patients account for 9.8% of hospital beds, 14.67% of ICU beds and 9.71% of ventilators in the sate. Ohio has 6,129 (23.5%) hospital beds, 1,070 (23.07%) ICU beds and 3,026 (64.34%) ventilators available.
