Another sushi restaurant closes near Dayton Mall

A hand-lettered sign reading “Sorry We are Closed” is taped to the front door of the Osaka Sushi & Hibachi Buffet restaurant at 8901 Kingsridge Drive behind the Dayton Mall.

There was no activity at the restaurant this morning, Dec. 22. A phone call to the restaurant went unanswered, and a voice mailbox was full. The restaurant’s owners could not be reached, and there is no mention of the restaurant’s status on its Facebook page. Osaka opened in September 2015, utilizing a distinctive “sushi conveyor” as part of its service concept.

The space previously housed the Hazel Grille & Tavern, which operated for 15 months before shutting down in October 2014. It operated as a Max & Erma's restaurant until 2009.

If Osaka is closed permanently, it would become the second sushi restaurant near the Dayton Mall to shut down within four months. The Sushi Cafe on Byers Road at Ohio 725 west of the mall shut down in September after nearly two decades.
