Dayton-area BBQ, Italian restaurants take summer break

Summer break isn’t just for students — it’s for restaurants, too.

Two family-operated, independent restaurants in the Dayton area are taking an early-summer hiatus, one for vacation and another to accommodate restaurant maintenance and renovations.

Palermo's Restaurant at 2667 S. Dixie Drive in Kettering shut down temporarily last week because its owner is taking a vacation, according to a sign posted on the window of the restaurant and a post on the Palermo's Facebook page. It is scheduled to reopen Aug. 10.

And Company 7 BBQ at 1001 S. Main St. (Ohio 48) in Englewood will be closed today, July 3 through July 12 for annual maintenance, according to an email owners sent to customers.

“We are proud that we always make the daily maintenance investments to keep the Company 7 BBQ facility in very good shape, but some of the bigger jobs cannot be done while we are open,” the restaurant’s co-owners, Bill and Mary Grilliot, said. “Since we are open seven days a week, we cannot really do those needed repairs when we are open. Therefore, we find it necessary to close for about a week each summer to handle those messy and involved jobs that keep the facility in the best shape possible for your visits.

“And, the (temporary closure) also allows our employees to spend vacation time with their families, which is so important to them and us.”
