When they applied to Washington Twp. officials for permits to make the move, the Five Guys franchise owners said in their application that occupancy costs at the previous location “have become a burden that is unsustainable.” Five Guys’ former restaurant neighbor, Rue Dumaine, cited rising occupancy costs as the driving factor behind its closure in July 2017.

***ORIGINAL STORY (Feb. 22, 2019)***

A former nightclub and dance bar that shut down a year ago following a 14-year run appears headed for a complete transformation into a relocated Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant.

The former VUE Ultra Lounge at 1004 Miamisburg-Centerville Road (Ohio 725) in Washington Twp. closed its doors on New Year’s weekend in January 2018. The franchise owners of the Five Guys Burgers and Fries on the other side of Ohio 725 at 1057 Miamisburg-Centerville Road have sought and obtained approval from Washington Twp. officials to relocate the restaurant to the former bar and dance club, and have applied for a building permit to complete the project, according to Washington Twp. and Montgomery County records.

One of the franchise owners told this news outlet he would have more information on the relocation in the coming weeks.

“Five Guys Burgers and Fries has been located at Township Square since August of 2009. Though it has been a successful operation to date, occupancy costs have become a burden that is unsustainable,” the franchise owners told Washington Twp. officials in a zoning application. “We are proposing that we move to the other side of the street to 1004 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in the old VUE location.”

Five Guys’ former restaurant neighbor, Rue Dumaine, cited rising occupancy costs as the driving factor behind its closure in July 2017.

The 2,387-square-foot space would accommodate a 67-seat restaurant that would employ 25 or less, the franchise owners said.
