The girl, who police said was 11 or 12, fell from the Typhoon ride between 6:30 and 7 p.m., Sgt. Jim Klawitter told the newspaper.

She was taken to the hospital, the Missoulian reported. Klawitter said her injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Fair officials closed down the ride after the incident “so that inspectors can figure out what happened,” Klawitter told the newspaper.

The fair runs through Sunday.
