Houston woman charged in fatal shooting of boyfriend in mall parking lot

Update 3:24 p.m. EDT Oct. 3: Emily Rose Orbe, accused of killing her boyfriend in the parking lot of a Houston mall, told witnesses she acted in self-defense, a state prosecutor said in Harris County Court on Wednesday.

Orbe, who is pregnant, shot the man after chasing him in her Dodge SUV in the parking lot of the Willowbrook Mall, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The man, identified by medical examiners as Davin Walton, was riding away on a motorcycle after the couple's fight inside the mall spilled into the parking lot, the Chronicle reported.

Orbe hit the motorcycle, causing her boyfriend to fall off, authorities said.

Orbe, 32, is being held in the county jail on $100,000 bond.

Original report: A Texas woman is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend Monday during a fight that ended in the parking lot of a Houston mall, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Emily Rose Orbe, 32, was charged with murder after the shooting, which took place outside the Willowbrook Mall. She allegedly killed her 40-year-old boyfriend, whose name has not been released, KHOU reported.

Police said a man and a woman were arguing inside the mall and it spilled into the parking lot, the television station reported. The man got on a motorcycle and Orbe chased him in a vehicle as they circled the parking lot several times.

Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith said they crashed, and sometime after the collision Orbe opened fire, the Chronicle reported. The man was shot in the back, Smith said.
