Job fair planned at Wright-Patt

Military spouses and service members will have a chance to look for a job among more than 50 employers this week at the Hope Hotel and Conference Center.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has set a “Hiring Our Heroes” networking reception and a hiring job fair this week.

Daniel P. Smith, program manager of the military spouse hiring initiative, said trying to find jobs that transfer from location to location, flexible work hours and the ability to work remotely are key for military spouses who search for employment and must relocate every few years.

The event also is open to Gold Star family members, veterans, and Wright-Patterson civilian workers and their families, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.

“Anyone who has an association with the military is welcome to come to our event,” Smith said.

A networking reception with a “speed mentoring” session on feedback on resumes and career advice, is set 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The hiring fair is set 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Among dozens of employers expected are Comcast, FedEx Services, GE Aviation, Lockheed Martin, Synchrony Financial, Riverside Research, Starbucks, Verizon, Walgreens, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The conference center is located near Gate 12A off Ohio 444 in Fairborn. The event is considered an off-base event because participants do not have to get onto the base to access the hotel and conference center.
