Local Irish pub to morph into Italian restaurant

A local Irish pub is poised to morph into an Italian restaurant, but will remain under the same ownership.

Murphy's Irish Pub — which opened in May 2014 in space that previously housed a Barleycorn's at 6204 Wilmington Pike — will become Caramella's Italian Kitchen in early November, co-owner Candace Anderson confirmed to us today.

A tentative timetable, which Anderson said could change, calls for Murphy’s Irish Pub to close at the end of business on Oct. 30, and for Caramella’s Italian Kitchen to open five days later on Nov. 4.

"We truly appreciate everyone who enjoyed coming to Murphy's," Anderson and her husband Scott Anderson wrote on the Murphy's Facebook page. "After Murphy's closes, you can still get the same great Irish food at out sister pub, Paddy's Irish Pub, located in South Centerville by the Kroger Marketplace" on Ohio 48.

Anderson said the new Italian restaurant will fill a market niche and will feature authentic Italian dishes from a new chef who spent a year in Italy.

Plans call for hiring as many as 15 servers and three cooks to accommodate the transition and to staff the new restaurant.
