Beavercreek, Fairborn police to start using drone technology

Beavercreek and Fairborn police are incorporating unmanned aerial technology, or drones, in their day-to-day operations, according to a social media post from Beavercreek police.

Two officers from each department have obtained remote pilot licenses from the Federal Aviation Administration and are learning together how to operate and maintain the mini remote-controlled aircraft, according to the post.

"The purpose behind the program is to provide real time information for responding officers and aid in locating missing or fleeing individuals," Beavercreek police's Facebook post reads. "Additionally, the UAS platforms may aid in traffic crash investigations, tactical deployments and large event surveillance for safety."
