Coronavirus: 33,439 total cases, 2,044 deaths reported in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Health is reporting 33,439 total coroanivirus cases and 2,044 deaths.

There have been 31,191 confirmed cases and 1,842 deaths reported during the pandemic.

The state has reported a total of 5,700 hospitalizations and 1,492 ICU admissions.

On Tuesday, Gov. Mike DeWine announced a new plan to increase testing in nursing homes, which previously have been hot spots for the virus.

Nursing homes with a history of coronavirus will receive priority, the governor said.

All staff will be tested with residents being tested based off assessments.

DeWine ordered that nursing homes stop visitations about two months ago in hopes of slowing the spread among some of the state’s most vulnerable populations.

Also on Tuesday, pools, fitness centers, mini golf, batting cages, bowling alleys and Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle offices were able to reopen.

Training and condition for all sports was able to resume as well, as well as non- and low-contact sports leagues.
