Dayton received 16 of 28 first-place votes in the poll released Tuesday at A-10 Media Day at PPG Paints Arena. Rhode Island earned 12 first-place votes and was picked to finish second. Virginia Commonwealth, Davidson, St. Bonaventure, Richmond, La Salle, George Washington, St. Joseph’s, Massachusetts, Fordham, George Mason, Duquesne and Saint Louis followed.
Dayton, VCU and St. Bonaventure tied for the regular-season championship last season.
Dayton senior Charles Cooke made the A-10 preseason first team, and senior point guard Scoochie Smith made the second team. Cooke and Kyle Davis made the all-defensive team.
