8 facts about Dayton's new bike share program

Very soon, Daytonians will have an all new way of getting around town.

A new bike share program, called Link, is set to launch next month.

Here are eight things you need to know about the program:

1. The program is set to launch May 5 at noon during The Square is Where event on Courthouse Square.

2. The program will begin renting bicycles at its stations in and around the downtown area beginning next month.

3. Link initially will offer 24 stations that are being installed this week in and around downtown Dayton. The system will have 225 bicycles available for rent.

4. Annual membership will cost $65, and semester passes will run $45. It will cost $30 for a monthly pass and $5 for a day pass.

5. Station locations were selected based on their proximity to hot spots and employment and activity centers, including restaurants, shops and arts and entertainment attractions.

6. Thirteen stations will be placed in the Central Business District, east of the Great Miami River with a southbound border of Fifth Street.

7. Five stations will be located around the University of Dayton Campus. UD was one of the founding sponsors of the program. The Dayton Art Institute and the UD Research Institute will have docking stations.

8. The bike-share program will operate out of a Greater Dayton RTA building on South Main Street.
