Springfield firefighters made a new furry friend over the weekend after they helped rescue a kitten from a drain on Walnut Terrace.
Though the firefighters typically don’t respond to animal rescues due to safety concerns, crews lifted the drain’s grate and saved the kitten.

One of the residents in the neighborhood claimed “the little beast” and took it to the vet to be evaluated, according to the fire department.
