Injured Kettering wrestling star to return to school

A star Fairmont High School wrestler who suffered a debilitating stroke while practicing front headlocks nearly two years ago is planning to return to school for his senior year, his family said on a Facebook post Friday.

On Father’s Day 2015, Ahmed Doucet was training at the Prodigy Fitness Center in Springboro as a national tournament approached in Tulsa, Okla. Initially, Doucet was thought to have suffered a concussion, but doctors later determined he had a stroke.

He was treated at local hospitals, the Cleveland Children’s Clinic and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital before eventually returning to his Kettering home, which was remodeled with community donations.

His mother, Angela Fisher, said last year, “Ahmad can’t speak or purposefully move any of his limbs.”

She said he was “trapped inside his own body,” aware of what has happened.

On a Facebook page his family has used to post updates about Doucet’s condition, the family said Friday that he would go back to Fairmont to finish his senior year.

“It has been his goal to go back to high school and get his diploma,” the post said. “He will gradually transition back into Fairmont in the fall, and we are overjoyed.”

Despite the severe damage caused by the stroke, Doucet works hard every day, the family said.

“We go to the movies often,” the post said. “He is always up for an adventure and loves to get out of the house. So please, if you see us out, stop by and say, ‘Hi.’ He loves that.”

Doucet will turn 19 in August.
