2 more local doughnut shops to close temporarily

Bear Creek, Donut Haus to join Ashley’s, Bill’s, Stan’s and Jim’s in temporary shutdown; options still available

One of America’s favorite comfort foods — doughnuts — will become a bit more scarce in the Dayton area starting at noon on Monday, when two more local shops shut down temporarily as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the statewide “stay-at-home” order.

Plenty of options remain for those who need a doughnut fix: shops that sell food for carryout are exempted from a statewide shutdown of dine-in restaurant services, and the stay-at-home  order allows Ohio residents to venture out to obtain food stores and carryout restaurants and shops. But as of noon today, Bear Creek Donuts in Miamisburg and The Donut Haus Bakery in Springboro will join doughnut shops such as Ashley’s Pastry Shop in Oakwood, Bill’s Donut Shop in Centerville, Jim’s Donut Shop in Vandalia and Stan the Donut Man in Dayton in suspending their operations temporarily.

On its Facebook page, Bear Creek Donuts’ owners on Tuesday wrote:

“With the current state of lockdown, considering both employee and customer safety, and the fact we may have seen tumbleweeds blowing down the street today (okay, small exaggeration), we have decided to shut down tomorrow at noon until April 6. So 6 a.m. to noon Wednesday is your last chance to get donuts for a little while. However, we will be back. Stay healthy and happy ya’ll. Don’t forget to come visit when we reopen!”

>> Amid pandemic and closings, a new carryout restaurant opens in Kettering

We placed some calls this morning, on Wednesday, March 25, and found several doughnut shops still open. We haven’t reached them all, so consider this just a sampling, not a comprehensive list.

-- First, an employee of the Dunkin’ Donuts on Woodman Drive in Riverside said her shop is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and she said all other Dayton-area Dunkins remain open as well. There are nine Dunkin’ stores in the Dayton-Springfield area: Kettering, Centerville, Sugarcreek Twp., Fairborn, Washington Twp., Springfield, Dayton, Beavercreek and Riverside.

-- Donut Palace Huber Heights: Open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. today

-- Donut Palace Trotwood: 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

-- Duck Donuts, Dayton: 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

-- American Classic Donuts, Dayton: 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

-- Donut & More, downtown Dayton: 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

-- Ulbrich’s Hometown Bakery (we checked the Englewood location): 6 a.m. to noon

We hope to update this list as we get more information.
