Kettering police mourn loss of ‘Top Dog’ K9 Brix

The Kettering Police Department announced that retired K9 Brix died early Monday with his partner Lt. Brad Lambert by his side.

“K9 Brix and Lt. Lambert remain one of the best K9 teams in Kettering history,” the department posted on social media.

The K9 team served the city of Kettering and surrounding jurisdictions as one of the most dependable tracking, apprehension and narcotics K9 team in the region. Brix and Lambert also were assigned to the Kettering Regional SWAT team, deploying with the team on numerous operations.

Brix and Lambert competed at multiple regional and national certifications. Brix won numerous awards and was named “Top Dog” for the United States Police Canine Association in 2012 and the Ohio Law Enforcement K9 Association. In 2010, Brix earned Top Dog honors as well.

Brix joined the department in 2008 and retired from service in 2015.

Brix was imported from the Czech Republic, the department stated.
