Two locally owned and independent doughnut shops that had previously shut down in Dayton’s south suburbs due to the coronavirus pandemic and statewide stay-at-home order will reopen for special Saturday events that will feature no-contact curbside pickup of pre-ordered sweet treats, starting April 11.

" ... The staff and I are going a little stir crazy, aren't we all?" the owners of The Donut Haus in Springboro and Bear Creek Donuts in Miamisburg said in posts on both shops' Facebook pages. "Literally we are losing our minds not being in the kitchen. ... Frankly, we miss you all a lot, and baking is our passion. So let's have some fun with this and get your sweet tooth some sugar."

Here’s how it will work at The Donut Haus, according to owner Ryan Tripp, who said he came up with the idea with former Donut Haus owner Mike Hemmert:

“We are going to do a prepay-only event on Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon. Offering a pre-selected variety dozen, a glazed dozen, or half dozen fritters, for $10 each (per order). You can order as many of each (option) as you want.”

“There will be no need to get out of your car as you will have your order brought to you. We will also be accepting donations for the Springboro Community Assistance Center (SCAC). We will begin taking pre-orders Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Pickup will be on Saturday, April 11 (from 8 a.m. to noon). Call 937-479-6660 or 513-254-2617 to place an order and have your credit card processed.”

The Donut Haus is located at 305 W. Central Ave. in Springboro. A drive-through lane will be set up to facilitate the distribution of the doughnuts.

The pre-ordering will work the same, with the same hours and phone numbers, for curbside pickup at Bear Creek  Donuts, located at 80 S. Main St. in Miamisburg, from 8 a.m. to noon on April 11.

Businesses that sell food for carryout are exempted from the statewide stay-at-home order, which allows Ohio residents to venture out to food stores and carryout restaurants, including doughnut shops. State officials have encouraged residents to make such trips as seldom as possible.

Tripp had shut down both his Miamisburg and Springboro doughnut shops on March 25. More than a dozen other doughnut shops across the Miami Valley have remained open throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
