Major Dayton bridge shut down for weekend

We were warned. Now it’s happening.

The Main Street bridge in Dayton will be shut down — completely — for construction. But just over the weekend.

Between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday, the bridge will close entirely, disrupting vehicle and bus traffic through downtown.

The four-lane bridge has been reduced to one lane in either direction since March for a major rebuilding of the 592-foot bridge from the piers on up.

The $8.8 million Ohio Department of Transportation project is expected to last through the fall of 2019.

Motorists can expect more complete closures from time to time, according to ODOT.

How to get around:

The northbound detour is Monument Avenue to Great Miami Boulevard to State Route 48; southbound: Great Miami Boulevard to Riverside Drive to Monument Avenue to State Route 48.

Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority routes 7 and 43 will detour during the closure.

Stops between Jefferson Street at Second Street and Main Street at Babbitt Street will be missed during the detour. The bus stops on Main Street at Emmett Street will be closed for routes 7 and 43.

Riders should use stops Jefferson Street at Second Street or Main Street at Babbitt Street.
